Arizona is the number one state for identity theft within the United States. However, identity theft can happen anywhere. Many consumers fail to realize the potential dangers that lurk out in the general public. However, there are ways to help prevent identity theft. All one has to do is simply take a few simple precautions such as:

1. Destroy personal records and financial statements.

2. Safeguard your mail.

3. Secure your social security number (cards).

4. Never leave a paper trail, such as leaving receipts behind at the restaurant or ATM.

5. Never leave your credit card lying around or leave it out in the open.

6. Be very familiar with whom you are doing business with.

7. Subscribe to the 3do not call list.

8. Never give out personal information to random people. If you did not initiate the call or conversations with a trusted source, never give out your personal information.

9. Review your credit report at least once per year. It is ideal to review your credit report twice per year.

10. Always look at your credit card statements and make note of any suspicious or out of the ordinary charges and contact your credit card company immediately.
